Pediatric Massage
Ideally, massage for children begins when they are infants.  However, it is never too late to begin massage!   From growing pains to sleep issues, older children (toddlers though school-age) can enjoy the many benefits of massage.

Research had shown that nurturing touch (massage) for children can stimulate or suppress the release of powerful hormones and other chemicals that affect many functions of the body, including emotions, behavior, growth and thinking.
Touch (massage) stimulates the release of Oxytocin, a hormone and brain neurotransmitter.  Oxytocin increases the trust impulse and reduces feelings of fear, fostering social bonding.  Oxytocin helps protect the body against damage from stress by lowering blood pressure and cortisol levels.  Cortisol is a stress hormone.  Although always present in the bloodstream, high levels can be unhealthy and affect cognitive, social, motor and other developmental delays.
For those with children who have never received massage, it is never too late to begin.  With the ever increasing demands on today’s children in our low-touch society,  massage may be very helpful in dealing with stress, sleep issues, aggressive behavior and muscle soreness from growing pains as well as sports-related activity.
